2017 Tower Climbing Class Schedule
Vertical Safety Solutions offers a variety of tower climbing safety and rescue courses, Classes are scheduled 1 time a month. If the training schedule does not meet your available dates or need for training feel free to contact us and we can look at other date options to fit your schedule.
Course curriculum are designed to exceed the standards, regulations, and recommendations required of the tower industry who must provide fall protection and rescue training to tower climbers, regardless of their task on the tower. All courses consist of interactive classroom sessions, hands on exercises, and real time on a tower to enhance the learning process. Certification courses are developed to promote safety while climbing and exceed OSHA, ANSI, and NATE Climber Training Standards.
VSS101 Tower Climbing Safety

Tower Climbing Safety 101 – Available as an open enrollment class in LeRoy, MI.
This 10 hour course starts with 5 hours of class room lecture and concludes with 5 hours of basic training climbing, rigging and maneuvering on a 100’ tower.
This course is designed for new climbers who are seeking a career working at heights, Company personal that need a better understanding of the terminology, tasks, and equipment required for a climber to safely and efficiently preform their job. Companies who hire new climbers and need their ability to work at heights evaluated prior to job placement, and ground crew personal to better understand their part in competently being a ground worker.
Students will be taught the basics of:
- Definitions and terms
- Death by gravity
- Rules, standards and regulations
- Rope and knot terminology
- PPE inspection, care, use and wear
- Tower styles/inspections
- Foundation styles/inspections
- Hazard assessment
- Personal climber safety
- Safety meetings
- Rescue options
Tower tasks to be performed:
- Safety meeting
- Hazard assessment
- Selection of PPE
- Proper Use of position restraint
- Proper use of fall arrest
- Climb using lad safe, safety climb
- Climb using rope grab
- Maneuver around tower changing faces
- Set up for a tower rescue
- Perform a variety of tasks using hand tools
